Standard III.D.

Orientation, assistance, consultation, and professional development opportunities are provided by counseling program faculty to site supervisors.

School Counseling

The program faculty members provide various forms of orientation, assistance and consultation to the site supervisors. Upon approval of the site, the student provides the site supervisor with a copy of the Field Site Supervisor Manual which explains the roles of and expectations for site supervisors as well as a general overview of the student’s clinical experience. The program faculty visits the site each semester during the practicum and internship to consult with the site supervisor concerning the student’s progress and any questions and concerns that the site supervisor may have. A Weekly Supervision Session Log is completed by the site supervisor describing the summary of each supervision session and any recommendations made to the student. The students periodically submit their Weekly Supervision Session logs to the program faculty, which in turn serves as an ongoing means of communication between the site supervisor and the program faculty.

As described above, the program faculty are in regular contact with the site supervisors, and often consult on professional issues outside the strict realm of a typical site visit as requested by the site supervisor. Additionally, the site supervisors are given a choice of a cash honorarium ($100.00) or a voucher for one-half credit (0.5) to be used towards a course at TCNJ for each semester they serve as a site supervisor. The online tutorial discussed in the standard III-C will be available to all site supervisors in Fall 2012 to augment supervisors’ knowledge and skills in supervision.
